GUIDELINES FOR CHAPERONING AT SOLO AND ENSEMBLE CONTEST Dear Parents/Guardians First, let me thank you for your willingness to serve as a chaperone at Solo and Ensemble Contest this Friday. I greatly appreciate having responsible parents to help with supervision. This being said, I can recall more than once in the past when the parents who volunteered were “less than helpful”. This was most likely because they didn’t know what was required of them. With that in mind, I thought it might be beneficial to provide a few guidelines. We are required to have an adult chaperone in the homeroom at all times. By all means I want you to be able to see your child’s performance(s), but the rest of the time, would you take turns watching the room? If you will meet with me when we arrive, we can work out a schedule to accommodate everyone. I highly recommend bringing a book or a couple of magazines for when “on duty”. If you have a cell phone, bring it along. Please put it on“vibrate” when in a performance area.
Students will come and go from the homeroom. They may draw on the chalkboard, but absolutely cannot bother anything else in the room. They may eat snacks in the room, but there can be no messes. Please have them clean up after themselves. There is to be no “horse-play” in the room or hallways. If you see any of our students, (Churchill or Lombard) behaving in this manner, please address the problem. Students have been warned that they are to treat you with the same respect as their teachers. Please see me immediately if you have any problem with a student and I will take care of it.
Encourage the students to go hear our other performances as well as performances from other schools, (in other words, don’t let them hang around the homeroom all the time).
I’m sure it goes without saying, but please see to it that your behavior is respectful and “adult-like”. We have plenty of children to be responsible for as it is!
Please keep a schedule with you at all times. This will enable you to locate me quickly if there is an emergency.
Thank you so much for your help! If you have any questions or concerns you can reach me by the following: (309) 337-8400 or [email protected]
